Hi again. Dr. Dennis Barley here, your chiropractor for headaches in Fairhaven, MA.
I’m gonna talk about the types of headaches that we take care of here at Barley Wellness.
Headache Symptoms | Fairhaven, MA Chiropractic
The first one I’m gonna talk about is a tension headache. A tension headache often sometimes feels like a band around your head and it’s kind of dull pain. Experts think that a tension headache is created from muscle tension; you’ve got muscles all over your head and through your neck area. So this could be the reason for a tension headache.
Another type of headache is a migraine headache. A migraine headache can vary in intensity. Migraines can be almost debilitating where someone has to, they’re light phobic, they need to close their eyes, lie down. Many times they can feel nauseous.
Also again, they can feel foggy. Many times those headaches could indeed be due to spinal subluxations. Hormonal issues can also cause migraine headaches, but we’ll determine what type of headache you have.
The third type of headache we have, and right now it tends to be in the spring, in the fall, we have allergy or sinus headaches. If you have head pain that is back here in the mastoid sinuses or up here and/or here or here, those sinus-type headaches can be also debilitating, making you feel miserable.

So again, we’ll check to see if indeed you do have a sinus headache, allergies of course, hay fever, golden rod, dust, mites, et cetera. Those type of allergic type headaches are problematic for our patients, but we can determine what that is.
There’s also a whiplash headache, and a whiplash headache is not just from a car. You hear about whiplash with car accidents, not just from a car accident, but it’s essentially a back and forth whipping of the head or side to side.
That can happen in sporting injuries. Skiing, sometimes even just stepping off a curb too violently or having a fall off a ladder, what have you.
Those whiplash-type headaches are probably the worst type, because many times, few days after the pain goes away, you may think that that’s fine and then all of a sudden weeks down the road, you’re developing headaches that could be directly related to a spinal injury.
So we’ll determine what type of headache you have and then what we do is find out if indeed you do belong in our office. And again, if you don’t, we’ll let you know that too.
